Description

This course introduces the fundamental concepts concerning legal regulation in travel and tourism: From the principles governing the international Institutions and Organizations, the forms of international cooperation in tourism and the general international legislative framework to the regulation of the transport and tourism market, the infrastructure management legal tools, the international contracts for the transport of passengers and for the distribution of tourism services and package travel.

The course introduces the rules on the protection of passengers at an international level, the regulation of accommodation and food and beverage services, the evolution from the notion of “consumer” to that of “traveller”, through the figure of the “tourist”, the perspective towards an International Code on the Protection of Tourists and Tourism Service Providers.

 

What will you learn in this program?

This course will provide an insight into the new challenges that the international legal framework must face with reference to privacy and payment systems in the digital era, the global tourism trends (regulation of adventure, rural, sports and wellness tourism), the so called “sharing economy” and sustainable tourism according to the principles of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Sus intereses de investigación se han focalizado en; la experiencia de ocio al aire libre, sus beneficios, las barreras percibidas para su práctica, los sentidos del lugar que a partir de ella se construyen en áreas silvestres protegidas y en entornos urbanos híbridos, y en el último tiempo en las mutaciones a las prácticas de ocio en escenarios de confinamiento.

Alicia Gomez has 16 years of experience in the UN, 11 years at UNWTO and is UNWTO´s Legal Counsel since 2017. In this capacity, she supported the process for the development and adoption of UNWTO´s Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics. Among many other projects, she is currently leading the process for the development of an International Code for the Protection of Tourists (ICPT).
